Qiping Zhang is an Assistant Professor at Long Island University. Her research focuses on facilitating productive collaborations of individuals who are geographically and culturally distributed.  Currently, she is carrying out empirical studies in online trust in computer-mediated communication and cross-cultural comparison on how weblog is used in both personal and organizational environment. Qiping holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in HCI from University of Michigan and M.S. and B.A. in cognitive psychology from Peking University, China.

John Thomas is a Research Staff Member at IBM T. J. Watson Research Center.  He has worked in the general area of Human Computer Interaction for the last three decades.  After attaining a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Michigan, he managed a research project on the psychology of aging from 1971-1973.  He worked on HCI at IBM Research and at IBM HQ from 1974-1986 when he left to found and manage an AI lab at NYNEX from 1986 to 1998.  At this point, he rejoined IBM Research and managed a group on the business uses of stories and storytelling, built a socio-technical pattern language, and was responsible for the user experience in an e-learning system.   John is a licensed psychologist in the state of New York and has served as general co-chair of CHI 91, Workshop Chair for CHI ‘90 and has served on the workshop selection committee for many CHI conferences as well as co-leading workshops at CHI on six different occasions.   He has over 150 publications and invited presentations in HCI and related fields.



Dianne Cyr, Ph.D

Dianne Cyr is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Over the last five years, she has led a major SSHRC funded research project titled “Managing E-loyalty through Design”. This investigation is focused on how trust, satisfaction, and loyalty are built in online business environments through website design. A unique feature of this work is comparisons across cultures. Most recently the work has also considered design related to gender, age, and applications to mobile devices.  Further details of these research projects may be accessed at www.eloyalty.ca  Dianne Cyr is the author of five books including E-business Innovation: Cases and Online Readings (Prentice Hall), and has published over 40 research articles. She chaired a 2004 conference (the International Workshop for the Internationalisation of Products and Systems) titled “Culture, Trust, and Design Innovation”. S. Joon Park is a Ph.D. student at the college of information science and technology, Drexel University. His research focuses on social computing, affective computing, online trust, and cross-cultural studies in human factors and systems design. Joon graduated from Syracuse University for his M.S. in information management.  He holds a dual degree in marketing and supply chain management for his B.A. from Syracuse University.
