Contacting Schools
- Best approach: Contact teacher directly
Call school's main number; ask for teacher's extension
"Hello! I'm _______ from Long Island University. __________ recommended that I contact you.
I'm currently an [education major/Masters student in education], and I need to complete [number]
hours of in-school observations for my classes this semester. Is there a good time that I
could talk with you further about possibly doing observations at [school name]?"
Consider dropping off a personal follow-up note and your resume
Call again at appointed time
Offer to tutor, grade homework, work one-on-one with students during class time, etc.
If the answer is no, ask who else might be a good person to contact ? someone within that
school, or someone within a different school
Pursue more than one school at a time
Remember to call each one and thank them
Keep detailed records of each call and the outcomes
Be ready to go for an interview if requested ? lesson plan, resume, transcript,
letter of introduction
