Professor Akçura enjoys teaching marketing strategy, marketing
research, and database marketing. His research interests include database
marketing; pharmaceutical marketing and expert services; the impact of
information technology on marketing; learning behavior of consumers and
structural choice models; brand equity and its dynamic structure; and competitive
strategies behind pricing, brand equity, and private labels.
Professor Akçura was voted to be the Distinguished Teacher by MBA
students at Purdue
University two years in
a row, 2005 and 2006. In 2001, Professor Akçura was
named a Direct Marketing Association Fellow. While at Carnegie Mellon, he
received the William W. Cooper Doctoral Dissertation Award, the American
Marketing Association Consortium Fellow and the Andrew Mellon Fellowship. He
is a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA), and the Institute for
Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS).
Before joining to
academia, Professor Akçura was the European New
Product Planning Department Manager for Procter & Gamble, Europe. He has done consulting work for Management
Science Associates in Pittsburgh and IBM in Turkey.
