A survey of different kinds of Internet IR (information
retrieval) tools with regard to their characteristics, strengths and
weaknesses. An exploration of how IR techniques developed for other
environments (e.g., OPACs
and online systems) can be applied and utilized on the Internet to
retrieve
information of various types (e.g., text, images, sound, maps, and
addresses)
with many hands-on opportunities. The evaluation of Internet retrieval
tools
as well as information retrieved from the net will also be discussed.
