Résumé

TEACHING INTERESTS:

Statistics, Human Experimental Psychology on the WWW

In my current work as the director of our MA program in Experimental Psychology, I've placed a major emphasis on WEB-based research. This new emphasis will provide our MA students with some exciting opportunities for research with subjects recruited on the Internet.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

Visual Perception and Cognition; Human-Computer Interfaces; PsyD/PhD Differences

----------CURRENT RESEARCH:

During research on some basic science problems related to our work on the design of human-computer interfaces, we hit on a new method for measuring the time needed for the perceptual part of information processing. The basic idea is very simple: Provide varying amounts of time to perform a task and measure when the subject begins to waste it. The Devil (and of course the fun) is in the details. You can get some of the flavor of the work by reading the Abstract of a paper that David Nofer, Lisa Gische, and I published in 2002 in the journal Perception . A second paper in this series was recently submitted (Matin, E., Nofer, D., Christodoulou, A., & Koski, H. Perception Time Measured with the Slope Transition Paradigm (STP): Category, set-size, and task manipulations).

During a sabbatical in the spring of 2000, I had an opportunity to pursue a long-standing interest in doctoral degrees awarded to clinical psychologists. If you're curious about this, have a look at the abstract of the paper that grew out of the sabbatical.

A SPECIAL PROJECT:

I'd love to know what going on with my former students, so I'm hunting for the ones that I "lost". If you're reading this page, please let me know where you are (click at the top of the page to send an email message).
