STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
The Chemistry Department offers small classes and individual attention
in a friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to participate
in the ongoing research program of our faculty. They may do so formally
as early as their sophomore year (CHM
93, 94). The Chemistry Department offers free tutoring to
students who are enrolled in any chemistry class. Tutoring
is scheduled throughout the week at times convenient for students. Tutors
are upperclass Chemistry majors. The Chemistry Department has available
undergraduate assistantships for students who wish to work in the department
in exchange for tuition credit. In addition the Department hires
students on an hourly basis to work as laboratory assistants, helping instructors
in the preparation and running of the undergraduate laboratories. Students
who wish to apply for these positions must first complete CHM
3, 4 and preferably CHM 21,
22. The Chemistry Department also presents various
awards
to deserving undergraduates.
The Bachelor of Science degree is "approved"
by the Committee on Professional Training of the American
Chemical Society and the recipients of this degree are "certified"
as having completed an approved program.
